Mauritiania's Noura Mint Seymali makes her Cali debut as part of Skirball's Sunset Concert Series

It's often tricky buying tickets for an act you've never seen, but Mauritiania's Noura Mint Seymali, who makes her California debut tonight as part of Skirball's Sunset Concert series, is worth the gamble. And it's free. Brought up where the "Sahara, the Magreb and West Africa intersect," Seymali plays an intoxicating blend of Arab and African music that speaks to global youth culture. The Moorish griot (poet/storyteller) has received international critical acclaim for her old-meets-new electro-fusion of traditional Berber music, reggae, Afro-pop, funk, and desert blues. Arrive early for a DJ set by Tom Schnabel, of KCRW's Rhythm Planet, starting at 7:00 p.m.
