This Mauritanian artist's powerhouse voice cuts indelible layers of burning passion into the swirling, psychedelic guitar played by her husband, Jeiche Ould Chighaly, both layered by grooves provided by West African harp, lute and percussion as well as bass and drums. Seymali only made her U.S. debut this past January, and not even a year later she's found herself a place as one of the most exhilarating new musicians on the scene. Brimming with crackle and verve, Tzenni rocks along in a fantastic marriage of desert grit and otherworldly haze.
